- Cook time: 15 minutes
- Serves: Ingredients required per sandwich
Ingredients
- 3 T. mayonnaise
- 1 t. fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 t. dried oregano
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 1 T. softened butter
- 2 T. caramelized onions, store bought or homemade
- 2 slices gruyere cheese
- 1/2 c. arugula leaves, roughly chopped (or baby arugula)
- 2 slices gouda cheese
- 1 c. cherry tomatoes, to serve
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, parsley, and dried oregano.
- Butter the outside of the slices of sourdough bread.
- Our functional medicine Burbank doctors suggest assembling the sandwich by layering the herbed mayo, caramelized onions, gruyere, arugula, and gouda between the non-buttered sides of the bread.
- Place the sandwich buttered side down on a non-stick frying pan and place over medium-low heat. As experts in functional medicine digestion in Los Angeles, we recommend cooking until golden brown and crispy on both sides, approximately 6-7 minutes per side.
- Serve alongside cherry tomatoes or a simple salad.
